
In Memoriam -- Gaynell Scalise Markowski (T-8)

Gaynell Scalise Markowski of Blackridge, age 77, passed away
on Wednesday, October 13, 2021. Born the daughter of Norma (Hafer) Scalise
and the late Albert Scalise. Beloved wife of Joseph A. Markowski for 49
wonderful years. Loving mother of the late Ellen Marie Markowski. Cherished
sister of Francine (Michael) Donovan. Dear aunt of Heather Jones, and her
children, Donovan and Kaitlyn. Also survived by many nieces and nephews from
the Markowski family. Gaynell was born and raised in Monessen, and was a
graduate of Monessen High School. She then went on to attend Indiana
University for her Bachelors Degree in Art Education. Gaynell then join the
Peace Corps and served in Turkey for two years teaching English as a second
language to students. After returning home, she attended the University of
Pittsburgh where she graduated with a Masters Degree in Social Work and met
her soul mate, Joe. Several years later, Gaynell began to work for The A.R.C.,
now commonly known as ACHEVIA. Gaynell had a successful career with A.R.C.,
and always held close to her heart working with the parents of children who
required her care. She enjoyed painting as a hobby and specialized in
pastels. Gaynell was a member of Word of God Church in Swissvale. A Mass of
Christian Burial for Gaynell will be held on Saturday, October 23 at 1:00
p.m. in Word of God Church of St. Joseph the Worker Parish. Arrangements by
