area and graduated from the University of Maryland. Steve's life and
work in New Mexico reflected his varied interests and passions - journalism,
auto mechanics, mental health. Eventually he found his true calling as
an elementary special education teacher. Steve had a gift for working
with children and young adults like him, unwilling or unable to color inside
Steve loved animals and
rescued many. He loved children. He loved his family and
friends. He strongly believed in equal opportunities for all,
particularly those who cannot take for granted a safe and productive life.
He was completely and vocally intolerant of bigotry,
prejudice, and willful stupidity.
