Gene Zajac (T-13)

Eugene Chester Zajac, 71, passed away on April 27, 2016, at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. He was born in Chicago to the late Stella and Chester Zajac. A career diplomat, he retired from the Department of State in 1994. An encore career with General Dynamics followed his retirement. His interest in Foreign Service began with a Peace Corps posting in Turkey. Subsequent diplomatic assignments included Bangladesh, Turkey, Greece, Thailand, Germany and the Soviet Union.

He attended high school in Chicago, graduated from Bradley University and completed post-graduate studies in political science at Syracuse University.

He is survived by his wife Marcella Ann (Carlson) Zajac, a son Jesse (Kelly), step-grandson Bronson and brothers, Jan (Deborah), Gerry (May), niece Marisa and James (Sarah). He will be greatly missed by his family and friends around the world for his selflessness, insight and quick wit.
