Catherine Winfrey Broer, T-17, was born in Sibley, Missouri on December 13, 1947, to David and Dorothy (Bowling) Winfrey. She passed away at her home on February 4, 2015.
Catherine received a B.A. degree from William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri, and an M.A. from Central Michigan University. She served in the American Peace Corps in Turkey, and also taught for three years in Colombia, South America. On returning to the U.S., She was a foreign student advisor at the University of Missouri and later at Iowa State University.
Catherine married Tim Broer of Iowa Falls at Six Mile Baptist Church, Sibley, Missouri, on January 17, 1981. Tim and Catherine were blessed with two children, Karl and Anna. Catherine and Tim farmed south of Iowa Falls. She was a member of the library board for several years, helping plan and oversee the building of the new Barlow Library. Catherine was an active member of First Congregational United Church of Christ, serving on the church council, teaching Sunday school, singing in the choir, and playing the piano for worship services. She was also a respected member of Isabella Literary Society for many years.
Catherine was preceded in death by her parent, David Monroe Winfrey and Dorothy Bowling Winfrey. She is survived by her husband, Tim, children Karl Monroe Broer of Iowa Falls, and Anna (Ryan) Broer Weis of Urbandale; two brothers, Robert (Barbara) Winfrey, and Ed (Cindy) Winfrey of Sibley, Missouri; a sister, Martha (Terry) Winfrey Cunningham, of Salem Missouri; nephews, Robert Douglas Winfrey, Kinley (Lindsey) Winfrey, Charles Winfrey and Glenn Winfrey, all of Sibley, Missouri; Harley (Sarah) Winfrey of Wyoming, and David (Min Jung) Winfrey of South Korea; nieces, Gitta Winfrey of Sibley, Missouri, and Becky (Brad) Cunningham White of Salem, Missouri, and many cousins.

IOWA FALLS—Catherine Winfrey Broer, of Iowa Falls, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2015, at her home. Memorial services will be Saturday, Feb. 14, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Iowa Falls. Memorials may be directed to one of the following: Barlow Memorial Library, Greenbelt Home Care, First Congregational United Church of Christ or the Association for Frontotemporal Dementia.
