Gary F Smith (T-5)

1940- Dec. 10, 2009

Gary Smith was born in 1940 in Eugene, Oregon.  He was an “Army brat” and lived in many states and in Germany while growing up.  After graduating from South Eugene High School and then from university, Gary was a 2nd Lt. in the Army.  Then in 1964 he graduated from the University of Oregon with a degree in Business, and Gary and his wife, Julie Woods Smith, joined the Peace Corps, serving in the small Turkish village of Dereköy in the province of Burdur from 1964-1966.  After the Peace Corps, Gary then earned a Masters degree in International Business at AIFT in Arizona.  He worked for Cummins Engine company and for Ford and Monaco. Upon retirement he owned the Crazy Horse Campground in Tennessee.  He had two children:  Megan Collett of Harrisburg, OR and Joshua Smith of Denver, CO.  He left two grandchildren.   He passed away on Dec.10, 2009 and his memorial was on Jan. 30, 2010.
