Richard Merrill Schwartz  (T-8)

1942 – Sept 28, 2009

Richard Merrill Schwartz, 66, loving son, husband, father, grandfather, mentor and friend took his leave from those who loved him September 28, 2009.  Richard was a native Bostonian who called Houston home for nearly three decades before his recent move to Charlotte, NC.

A former civil rights activist, Peace Corps Volunteer (TEFL/Merzifon), and anthropology professor, he shared his love of cultural studies and travel with his family; and his love of his family with all who would listen.  Always the educator, his most recent job with Met Life afforded him the ability to mentor others and the opportunity to forge lasting friendships.  To friends and family alike, Richard left the gift of wit.

He is survived by his wife, Karen; his children, Rachel Schwartz, Alexis Schwartz, and step-daughter Ginger Gilbert; his grandchild, Eleanor Celia McConville; his mother, Selma Binderman; and his faithful dog, Riya.
