COLUMBIA – Services for Mrs. Helen Mally Trapp of 3562 Linbrook Drive will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church. A wake will be held 6 p.m. today at Palmer Memorial Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Muscular Dystrophy Association, 2700 Middleburg Drive, Suite 240, Columbia, SC 29204 or The National Arbor Day Foundation, 211 N. 12th Street, Lincoln NE 68508.

Mrs. Trapp died peacefully at her home on Monday, May 15, 2006. She was born in Columbia, SC, and grew up in Glen Cove, Long Island, NY, a daughter of the late Gregory and Helen Mally. She was a graduate of the College of Saint Rose in Albany, NY, and had a distinguished service in the Peace Corps. Helen began a career in education in Moncks Corner, SC, teaching at A.C. Flora High School and Midlands Technical College, and finished her service at C.A. Johnson High School in Columbia, SC. She was an active parishioner in the St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church. She sang proudly in the St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church Gospel Choir and the South Carolina Symphonic Chorale for many years.

She is survived by her husband, Benjamin F. Trapp; a daughter, Helen Marie “Tootsie” Trapp; a son, Benjamin Franklin “Bubba” Trapp Jr.; brothers, Gregory (Anna) Tsontakis-Mally, Eugene (Cheryl Gross) Mally, Thomas Mally, Robert (Rosie) Mally; sisters, Barbara (Charles) Tripi, Katherine (William) Paling, Marie (William) Lynn, Mary Jane (Richard) Mui, Elizabeth (Kent) Schmidt; many nieces, nephews and friends.
